Artist Studio & Guest Room
Preston Park, Brighton
The client wanted a beautiful, light dual purpose space - for a studio to work in and also as a place for occasional guests to use. The cabin had a limited footprint due to the terraced nature of their garden so we had to be clever with the design to maxmise the space. To create as much light as possible, we fitted a large 1.2 metre square skylight to the roof and floor to ceiling window to the side elevation. We also fitted a glass door and large window to the front, flooding the cabin with light. The client also wanted a toilet, sink and shower and a small kitchen area to the main room.
The exterior of the cabin is finished in beautiful Siberian Larch with a shadow groove, finished with Osmo UV Protection Oil to preserve the natural patina. The black aluminium window frames look superb along with the black pergola feature to the side of the cabin. Inside the floor is finished with varnished 18mm Birch Ply, the walls are tongue and groove panelling painted in Green Smoke and the ceiling is plastered, painted in All White.
